Anyone who has had a secret turn into a lie.

Unexpected thought from the book:

People in vulnerable situations doing things to survive who are preyed on for others' evil benefit might not just be in the wrong place at the wrong time but are watched for the perfect time to take advantage and then groomed into another version of themselves they never imagined. 

Would I give this book as a gift:

Absolutely!

Our book club discussion settled on holding on to your identity. The good and the bad of holding on to your past version while you change into the current you.  There is always a cost and a price to be paid for the life you create. First Lie Wins is about sacrificing everything to survive and hold on to childhood dreams.

First Lie Wins; The Story:

When your life is a web of lies, one lie layered upon another to protect the one secret you value more than anything, your identity, you need the first lie to win.

The lie of identity comes first.  Make it so good that the people involved barely question you so you can immerse yourself deeply into their world and learn their secrets.  That way, when your mysterious boss gives you your job, you are prepared to execute regardless of the ask.

But things are different this time, with her name as Evie Porter and her mark as Ryan. Ryan has the life, the house, and the garden “Evie” has dreamed of since childhood. And this job has higher stakes after her last job failure. Evie needs to redeem herself with her mysterious boss, who rarely gives second chances. There can be no mistakes this time. There can be no getting caught. Success is the only option.

But Ryan has secrets of his own.  However, mystery and challenge is in Evie’s blood.
